Seojin Yoo

Pianist Seojin Yoo began playing the piano at the age of four and graduated with honors from Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School, and the College of Music at Seoul National University in South Korea. She went on to earn both a master’s degree and a doctoral degree from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, in Rochester, New York, USA, as well as a Performer’s Certificate, awarded to students with outstanding performance ability.Dr. Yoo has won numerous awards in competitions in Korea, including the Samik Piano Competition, the Hankook Ilbo Competition, and the University of Seoul Music Competition. She has also developed her artistry as a professional performer on various stages, including winning third prize at the Seattle International Piano Competition in Seattle, Washington, participating in Women in Music, and touring with the NYBC (New York Bible Conference) Fundraising Concert in New York, USA.

After returning to Korea, Dr. Yoo began performing with the Janáček String Quartet, followed by collaborations with the AndiemusikPhilharmonia and Neo Strings. She was also invited to perform at Youngsan Art Hall’s Familiar Classics and Spring Concert. Notably, her six-part solo series, “The Delicious Piano with Seojin Yoo”, which ran from 2014 to 2024, received enthusiastic responses from both audiences and critics, leading to performances at venues such as the Seoul Arts Center, Kumho Art Hall, and Daejeon Arts Center. In addition, she was selected as a featured performer for the Summer New Artists Concert (SNAC) and Beethoven Abend, organized by the Daejeon Arts Center, and has established herself as one of the representative performers of the region through numerous performances at the Daejeon Municipal Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center, Daejeon City Hall, Art Bridge, Clara House, and other venues.

Dreaming of a “warmer life than now,” she has pursued communication and sharing through music as the leader of the chamber music ensemble Ensemble Hana and the WooYoo Duo. Together with fellow Christian musicians, Dr. Yoo has actively participated in numerous fundraising concerts, including the Heart Sharing Concert, the Together series, the Talent Donation Prenatal Education Concert, the Susung Class Humanities Concert, and Donghaeng, serving underprivileged neighbors and local communities.

As an educator, Seojin Yoo has taught piano performance, literature, and pedagogy at the University of Seoul and its graduate school, Kongju National University, Korea Baptist Theological University and Seminary, Chungnam National University, Mokwon University, Daejeon University of Science and Technology, and the Daejeon Gifted Academy. She has also been invited to give master classes and recitals at the Xiamen Music School in China and Mongolia International University (MIU) in Mongolia.

 

In September 2025, Seojin Yoo was appointed resident pianist at Studio Bârâ’, where she shares her broad musical horizons and experience with a wider audience.
